La Paz
La Paz, meaning “Peace”, is Baja California Sur’s Capital. With a population of about 220,000 people, it is the largest city in this vast and peaceful desert landscape. It has been the State’s capital since Loreto, further to the north, was hit by a hurricane in 1535.
You can cross the Sea of Cortez from mainland Mexico by land, air, or ferry. La Paz offers numerous international flights from several US cities on major carriers.

When exploring the Baja Peninsula, be sure to visit La Paz—there is plenty to do for those seeking colorful, peaceful towns filled with activities. From eco-tourism, to in-season whale watching, scuba diving, beach bumming and big game fishing, La Paz has it all!

There are three beaches you must visit while in La Paz: Playa el Tecolote, Pichilingue and Balandra. Simply described as paradise, these beaches are just 20 minutes apart. Bring your own snacks and drinks while hanging out in Pichilingue and Balandra.

Feast on seafood while you are in the area—you will always be guaranteed a daily fresh catch. La Paz also offers a wide variety of dining options and international cuisine.
